What is Pilates?
''You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 and have a completely new body in 30 sessions'' - Joseph Pilates
The Body Control Pilates ™ method is based on the work of Joseph Pilates, who began to develop his method of exercise around the time of the First World War, before opening his first studio in 1920’s New York.
The Pilates philosophy is that control of the mind is required for control of the body. It is a specific form of exercise and body conditioning that targets muscles with precision to produce real results in posture, flexibility, core strength, muscle tone and balance.
Kefi Wellness run weekly group matwork Pilates classes in Norwich City centre, Sprowston, Costessey and Barnham Broom. We also teach Private matwork sessions at home, Reformer Pilates in a studio, and Pilates in the workplace.
Taught by knowledgeable and passionate teachers, our Pilates classes are always fun even when challenging. They’re small so we can keep a watchful eye, adapt exercises to suit your needs and make hands on corrections when needed. At the heart of it all, you’re part of a community of people all with the same goal….to move.

How does Pilates work?
During our daily routine our muscles and tendons become tighter. Pilates has an overarching goal to re-gain the body’s natural rhythm and coordination. “If you don’t use it, you lose it”.
Pilates will help you to develop proper breathing techniques to flood the blood with fresh oxygen and therefore replenish red blood cells, which nourish muscles.
Secondly, control of the mind is required for control of the body. You will train your brain to take control over the nervous system, which controls the muscles. It is all about quality not quantity - developing uniform, balanced muscles, both flexible and strong. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. It is remarkably effective and medically approved.
Our Reformer, Group and Private Matwork Pilates sessions are great for injury rehabilitation, improving sports performance, dealing with general aches and pains and tackling back/neck/shoulder issues to name just a few.
Isn’t it only for women? Answer: Quite simply - Pilates was developed by a man.
I am not flexible enough! Answer: Contrary to what many people believe, Pilates does not require you to be supple; furthermore its practice will make you more flexible.
